Common questions

Do I legally need an allergen matrix?

UK food law requires you to provide accurate allergen information for everything you sell. For non-prepacked food, a matrix is the standard, inspector-recognised way to record it. For prepacked-for-direct-sale (PPDS) food, you additionally need full ingredient labels under Natasha's Law.

What counts as PPDS food?

Food packed before the customer orders it, on the same premises it's sold — sandwiches in a chiller, boxed cakes, tubs of salad, bottled sauces made in-house. If you pack it after they order (a made-to-order sandwich), it's not PPDS.

Where does my data live?

The free matrix builder stores everything in your own browser — nothing is uploaded. Pro accounts store data securely so you can access it from any device; you can export or delete it at any time.

Does AllergenKit tell me which allergens are in my food?

No — and be wary of anything that claims to. You confirm every allergen from your own ingredient labels and supplier specs. AllergenKit gives you the professional format, keeps everything consistent, and makes updates painless. Responsibility for accuracy stays with your business, as the law requires.
